(1798〜1861)
He had Ukiyoe artists who represented the end of the Edo period, richness of pictorial designs, innovative design power, bizarre ideas, and sure drawing power, and produced many works that had wide appeal beyond the framework of Ukiyoe. His works cover a wide range of genres, from Yakushae, Mushae, Bijinga, Scenic Views to Caricatures and Shunga (erotic arts), and among them, he adopted subjects such as history, legends and stories, and showed his real ability in dynamic works in which huge whales, skeletons and monsters jump up and down on a large three-size screen. He is also known as a cat lover. I reproduced Kuniyoshi's works with digital technology. Let's enjoy Kuniyoshi's works!
